During this Christmas season, I would like to share something about gifts. We receive many gifts at Christmas not necessarily material ones. For the children, the joy of opening their presents is so exhilarating, they cannot wait to open them. They are so excited for many days before the actual Christmas and behave like these little firecrackers just waiting to explode. They do not know what to do with all their emotions. We as adults have presents to open too but the magnitude of excitement within really cannot measure up to that of a child.
We, as adults may sometimes receive a different gift, such as an unexpected gift of healing. For example, these last two Christmases John and I have been blessed with wonderful gifts of healing.
What happens when we experience an unexpected healing out of the blue? We embrace it, right? We give gratitude to Jesus, right? Ok, then what? What happens next? Do we start feeling afraid? Maybe. But what are we afraid of? We are afraid of losing what Jesus has done in our hearts in the way of healing.
When I was in front of the Blessed Sacrament the other day, I heard in my heart that the gift of healing can be compared to opening a present for the first time. We open it, we feel joy, and everything is so new. The present is then kept in a safe place to treasure and admire. Over time, the present may even break and then repaired but it is still treasured and admired. We may become over cautious with it because we are afraid to break it again.
Yes, the gift of healing may "break" because we are not sure what to do with it. It is so new. Thus, it takes time for us to figure out exactly what happened and how to live and work with it.This is ok. This is all a part of the growing process.
The gift of healing is not a plant already in bloom. It is a seed which has taken root and has already begun to sprout it's way out of the dirt to one day form its glorious bloom. As long as we keep using the water of prayer and facing the Son,, we need not be afraid of losing the gift of healing that Jesus has given.
Merry Christmas!
